Calibration

"Align current shooter" should be done at the start of every session. The process is the same as when DryFire was first installed so Follow the instructions on the screen

"Check alignment" brings up a target roundel so you can see if your gun is still aligned correctly

The example below shows a shot fired at the laser dot then shots slightly left/right/above/below.

"Shot detection" allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the cameras.

Too much light, or spots of direct or reflected light, within the field of the cameras as they tracks the targets, can cause the system to report spurious shots. Removing the light, or reducing sensitivity, may cure this.

If the sensitivity is too low the system may not be able to detect your real shots.

"Full calibration" takes you back to the calibration you did when you first installed DrYfire - a good way to make sure everything is set up as new.

Background

Select the background you would like.

Click and hold on "Peek" to see what the full display would look like

"Scope" allows you to set the selected background as the default, to be used to override any background defined in a simulation or to be used for the current simulation only.

"Browse" lets you select a JPEG file from your PC/laptop. Experiment if you wish, but you may have to fiddle sizes and aspect ratios to make it work.

Scaling

Sometimes things look a bit better if they are "larger than life" - clays for example.

Feel free to experiment.

Note: making clays bigger won't make them easier to hit, just easier to see! DryFire calculates hit/miss based on real clay sizes.

Target release

This is covered in the Simulations and targets section.

Clays

Some colours are easier to see on a screen - experiment to find which you prefer

DryFire does all its calculations, including required lead, using real world data. "Playback speed" lets you speed up or slow down clays to make them easier to see, but the calculations will not change.

Experiment by all means - but return to 100% as quickly as you can so you don't pick up bad habits.

"Types" shows the types of clays DryFire supports. Clicking on one will show some of the data used by DryFire when doing trajectory calculations. Don't go there unless you have a degree in physics or mathematics specialising in ballistics!! Actually, this is just us showing off because this was really hard!

Results

Dismiss mode" determines how long the results are displayed.

  • "Timer" will select a fixed time.
  • "Release timer" will leave the results up until any release timer you have set counts down to release the next target.
  • "Manual" will leave the results up until you press a key on your keyboard or until you call out something (like "Next!") if you are using acoustic release. Note: calling "Next!" won't release the target, see "Voice action" below.

"Voice action" determines what happens if you have using acoustic release and you have selected "Manual" in dismiss mode.

"Button action" determines what happens when your press the keyboard space bar if you are not using acoustic release and you have selected "Manual" in dismiss mode.

"Text scaling" allows you to change the size of result text - helpful if your PC screen is at a distance.

The results are a "Picture in picture" and this determine if they are shown.

"Shot cloud outline" will put a solid ring round the shot pattern when the results are displayed.

Maximum zoom out" sets the minimum distance back the results will zoom backwards. A low number keeps the camera close.

Wind

Set wind speed - or range of wind speeds for DryFire to pick one at random.

Set wind direction - or range of directions for DryFire to pick one at random.

Ranges are ideal for unpredictable gusts - which can make life challenging!

Sounds

"Narration": selects which messages are given by voice - and with what type of voice.

"Acoustic ready": notification when a target is ready for you to call "Pull".

"Clay release": a sound can be played when the clay is released from the trap.

"Clay distance": a sound can be played when the clay reaches a certain distance.

"Shot sound": selects the sound when you press the trigger.

Localisation

Select language and measurement system.

Add-ons

This shows the add-ons you have installed

A "key" (string of digits) will be provided when you purchase a new add-on and it should be entered in this screen.

Support

This displays system information, checks for updates, displays this User Guide and allows you to get help.

"Contact support" is used if you find a problem. It is very important that you use this method to contact us.

As well as providing your email address (so we can respond) and your description of the problem, it will send us very detailed diagnostic information about how your system is set up. This enables us to set up a system in the same way so that we can reproduce the problem - and fix it!

Advanced support functions

Please see the "Advanced functions" part of this User Guide for more details.

Miscellaneous

"Out of ammo": determines what happens if you have used all your cartridges but targets are still running.

"Lasers on projection": (projection add-on only) determines what the lasers are used for during projection.

"Projection menu": (projection add-on only) determines if the system should provide an on-screen menu for you to select items by "shooting" at them.

"Position mode": determines the way in which you define your eye height.

"Shared system": allows the system to be controlled by more than one person.

Warning: to prevent misuse, passwords are required for this function. Forgetting the admin password will require DryFire to be uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch.
